Probably one of the most talked about destinations amongst Tarpon enthusiast!
As some of you may know, the Megalops Atlanticus was known to be found in the Atlantic Ocean exclusively. About sixty years ago, Tarpon was encountered on the Panama Canal. On its nomad nature, Tarpon would cross the canal to the Pacific Ocean and make its way down south looking for fresh water to spawn where the Bayano River´s mouth is located.
Panama is the only place in the world where Tarpon ventures from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
We took Robson Green from the show EXTREME FISHING to experience this phenomenon, where he describes it as a truly amazing anomaly.
We cannot emphasize enough how much fun this can be, but other than the opportunity to catch the Silver King, we also go for Snook, Corvine, Red Snapper and other species that patrol this Pacific river.
Drive from Panama City to Puerto Coquira (Eastern Panama) takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The trip starts at 6:00 a.m. when our guide picks you up for a 1-hour and a half drive until we get to the mighty Bayano River. We launch the boat at the river’s edge where adrenalin starts to kick in. Our fishing day is influenced by tide so times are scheduled for the particular date.
More information on the logistics are given by email cause of the variable timing due to tides. This tour is usually 8 hours long.
