"Incredible Day!!!!!"

It was a surreal day on the canal and lake. No actually they were fantastic!! We booked via email and Ines took care of everything, good response time and confirmed our trip, thank you Ines!! We were picked up on time by a cheerful abe, stopped on the way for some awesome local coffee and breakfast sandwiches (not included) and headed to the lake. We stopped along the way in the Gamboa Game Reserve and Elliot called the cappuccino monkeys come down on our boat and grabbed grapes out of our hands, what a cool thing!!! We then went off fishing for Pico bass and caught a bunch. We kept a few to eat for lunch and released the rest, what a day. We stopped at an old, very “rustic local” spot where they fried our fish up with some fresh plantains and tomato & cucumber salad. Delicious. Just remember where you are and you will be OK, it may be a little uncomfortable for some to be honest. We were fine. It’s “really” rustic. Went back out for the rest of the afternoon, enjoyed some howler monkeys, beautiful birds and a baby crocodile. I need to sum it up… Incredible Day, thank you guys so much. Great operation, incredible personal service and a ton of fun. I just can’t say enough.

A really well organised trip with all gear provided with sandwiches and drinks also. Highly recommended.

“Great time had by all”

The team at Panama Canal Fishing went above and beyond to make our day special even though the fishing was very slow….they worked extra hard, and a little overtime, to make sure we both caught several fish. In addition, the wildlife viewing was awesome. All in all, well worth the money.

"A great experience"

Abe picked us up at our apartment right on time and took us to the boat. He operated as our guide for the day with a good captain. Abe has a great knowledge of the locality and helped us all catch peacock bass. Fed two types of monkeys on an island with grapes on the boat and we heard howler monkeys in the distance. A great experience to be on the canal in a small boat passing huge tankers etc.using the Canal.

A really well organised trip with all gear provided with sandwiches and drinks also. Highly recommended.

“Peacock bass fishing”

Best day of our 10 day stay. My wife and I couldn’t ask for a better day of fishing. Quit counting when the wife was ahead 12 to 9. Caught 3 over 4 lbs and one over 5. I would highly recommend this outfitter for the novice as well as the seasoned angler.

"Full Day Trip"

Fishing on Lake Gatun was beautiful and we caught some peacock bass, one over three pounds. They were very accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Lake. The owner Rick was incredibly responsive and answered all questions prior to our visit. He was there to meet us at our hotel on time and made sure the day ran smoothly for all involved. We couldn’t recommend them more!

“Canal Fishing”

Totally fluent he provided a wealth of insight into the history of Panama, the canal and more. On arrival at the marina we were met by Captain Elio who proved to be highly skilled and knowledgeable. We caught mostly Peacock Bass and thoroughly enjoyed our time on the canal. Rich insisted we try our catch and convinced the local resort to handle the task of cooking, making for an excellent end to the day prior to being transported back to the city. Highly recommended.

"Great peacock bass fishing trip"

The guide arrived promptly (even early) for departure from my hotel. The van was comfortable, the driver courteous and I arrived at the dock where everything was ready for fishing. After a short boat trip we arrived at the first site where we quickly landed a large peacock bass. (I am not an expert, but I estimate it was 4-5 pounds.) We continued to move to various sites fishing sites and ended up with a large quantity of fish which were fileted at the dock and given to me to take home. It was a great day with no surprises, which is exactly the way you want it. Both Roberto (the guide) and the boat captain were extremely helpful. Whenever I snagged a line or lost the bait, they were ready to fix me up for another cast. I could not ask for better attention. I would be happy to make another trip with them.

“Fishing Bucket List”

Abelardo Lopez pick us up for an easy drive from the Trump Ocean Club. He spoke great English and gave us a a very informative history of Panama, the canal and interesting sights along the way. The boat and fishing gear were all in good condition. We actually had a boat drive/guide and Abelardo as a guide so we wanted for nothing all day. I have already recommended this trip to my friends and hope to return.

“Best boats & guides on the lake!”

We were picked up in downtown Panama City on time (they showed up early) and were pleased to meet friendly and English speaking guides – far from a given in Panama. When we got to the marina on Lake Gatun it was very evident that their boats were bigger, nicer, and newer than all the local options and you could definitely see why it costs more. They have two Hurricane deck boats that are spacious, super comfy, and offer shade and protection from the rain – both of which you’ll need. Most of the other boats in the marina were little 15 foot skiffs with bench seats and nothing else. These Hurricane boats also had two swivel fishing chairs on the bow that made them perfect for this kind of trip.

In addition to nicer boats, the real difference was the crew. If you spend any time in Panama you’ll discover that not as many guides as you like speak English and they aren’t all friendly or helpful. What makes this company great is they have a local captain who knows the lake well and then they have a bilingual guide to provide you the service and expertise that you’d expect.

The fishing equipment was all very nice stuff, Shimano and Shakespeare, and they had countless boxes of lures. Most boats on the lake will just take you out with minnows and you’ll reel in a small peacock bass every other cast to the point it becomes automatic and unchallenging. What made this day so fun was we specifically targeted the larger bass that were hiding out in deeper water, and in addition to minnows we also tried poppers and crank baits. After a few hours of bass fishing (too many to count) we went into the channel of the Panama Canal and trolled for tarpon & snook – something else most other companies don’t try to do. We ended the day with a double hook up on snook, so needless to say we had a great time and I’d recommend this to everyone!

“Fun Experience”

Canal was such a great experience, seeing monkeys, alligators and birds, but the fishing, what an awesome time! we caught Oscar and Peacock Bass, the captain Elio really knows the best spots and techniques. Tour guide Richard has a great narrative for the historic part and nature insights, and it’s a great teacher. I will be definitely be back with more friends, hopefully in a sunny day to get tanned and also enjoy a “catch of the day” lunch.

On the Gatun lake you would truly feel on the ocean but keep in mind is an artificial lake form, it’s really awesome!

“Great day!”

First we stopped for some coffee and a quick breakfast, then we were off to Gamboa, a pleasant drive, partly through the rain forest. I enjoyed the running commentary from Rich about the history of Panama and boy does he know a lot!

Captain Elio was waiting for us, the boat was ready. It was roomy and comfortable. Fishing was slow to start, but action picked up later in the morning and I caught lots of nice peacock bass, on live bait and poppers.

We trolled for snook and tarpon later in the day, in the most peaceful, beautiful surroundings you can imagine. I lost two big ones; my own fault, I gave the fish too much room and they wrapped around some underground tree trunk I guess.

I can highly recommend this experience. The boat was well stocked with refreshment and home made sandwiches. After the drive back to the hotel, I felt I had made a friend. Hopefully Rich will come up to Vancouver one day so I can take him salmon fishing!

“Fishing which stands out like a peacock”

If you wish maybe to hang out while others fish and actually watch the container and tanker ships pass by you in the Panama Canal this is the company.

Imagine, fishing in the Panama Canal. What a blast!! If you like to eat your catch at a typical restaurant and drink so beers, take the extended trip. If , all you want to do, is learn about the history of the canal or be introduced to the wild life, this is the company. Rich and Gaby are tops. Don’t miss this. Once in a lifetime adventure.
